Founded in 1976 by chairman, president and chief executive officer Joe Houssian, Intrawest began as a residential and urban real estate firm. Today, Intrawest owns or is involved in 14 mountain resorts in North America and Europe along with two warm-weather resorts in the U.S. The company owns 100 per cent of Alpine Helicopters Ltd., the parent company of Canadian Mountain Holidays, the largest heli-skiing operation in the world. Intrawest also has land on which to build 19,811 more units to create the most vibrant resort villages in the world.
Ok, Ok so maybe this is a little bit of a quilty pleasure post. But, come-on, what better cross border business and real estate investing could there be than ski resorts and resort development. Intrawest is based in Vancouver, BC and one of the resorts it owns is Cooper Mountain Resort in Colorado where I spent a winter during college. Enjoy.
