Premium Brands Income Fund, based in Richmond, British Columbia, recently announced the merger with Hempler Foods based out of Bellingham, Washington. As part of the deal the new company, Hempler Foods Group LLC, is building a new 28,000 square foot facility in Ferndale, Washington. The new group is projecting annual sales of US$11 million through its food product sales primarily in the Pacific Northwest. Premium Brands is a leader in the specialty foods distribution in Canada and Hempler is a leader in the meat products market in the Pacific Northwest. The merger gains Premium Brands access to the U.S. market and helps Hempler expand its market share.
