The Canadian Federal government is proposing changes to the immigrant investor program and since June 2010 has stopped accepting new applications for the program. Future immigrants in the investor program will have to invest $800,000 under the new rules, which is double the previous requirements. They will also have to prove a personal net worth of $1,600,000, also twice the previous requirement. Many believe that when the change is finalized there will be a rush of millionaire immigrants to Canada, especially from China. The dollar requirements haven't been changed since 1999.
